SIERRA LEONEAN COINS commonly in use are minted in denominations of ten, fifty and one hundred leones. The portrait of National heroes appears on the obverse of each coin, while important buildings and economic installations of the country are featured on the reverse side of the coins.
SIERRA LEONEAN BANKNOTES commonly in use are issued in denominations of fifty, one hundred, five hundred, one thousand, two thousand and five thousand leones. All notes carry a lion's head watermark, security thread, serial number, date and signatures of the Governor and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone.
The portrait of a prominent Sierra Leonean and the National Coat Of Arms appear on the front of each note, while local scenes, popular land marks, buildings and various economic activities are shown on the back.
